New Leadership Announced for Near Southside, Inc.

Mar 09, 2018

After 13 years at the helm of Near Southside, Inc., President Paul Paine announced he would be stepping down at the end of June. At that time, Near Southside, Inc., Planning Director Mike Brennan will step into the role.

Paul and Mike have worked together at NSI for 12 years, overseeing dramatic change in the district, guiding development, building community, and serving as a resource for businesses both large and small.

At the annual Near Southside Shindig on May 4, Paul will formally introduce Mike as the new NSI President. “The time is perfect to pass the baton to Mike to lead this incredible organization that he has been instrumental in shaping,” said Paul. “I am extremely proud of our many accomplishments and the fact that the district has achieved such remarkable success.”

Before joining NSI, Mike spent six years with the City of Fort Worth’s Planning Department.  Shortly after joining NSI, he led the effort to create an urban, form-based development code for the Near Southside, resulting in the largest City-initiated rezoning in Fort Worth’s history. In 2008, the code received the Driehaus Award from the Form-Based Codes Institute, presented at the Congress for the New Urbanism.

Mike has served on the Board of Directors for the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and on the Fort Worth City Plan Commission, and he currently serves as Board Chairman for Fort Worth Bike Sharing, Inc. He received his master’s degree in urban planning from Harvard's Graduate School of Design in 1999, and his certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2002.
