Near Southside, Inc. isn’t the only organization producing great events in the Near Southside. One of the most exciting trends stemming from the district’s revitalization is the widespread interest among businesses and other civic-minded organizations in bringing a variety of fun events to the neighborhood.
Rahr Oktoberfest 5K
Rahr & Sons Brewing Company throws great neighborhood parties on a weekly basis, with brewery tours and tasting samples every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. Rahr also attracts thousands of beer-loving runners to their annual Rahr Oktoberfest 5K and after-party in late September.
2014 brought the first inaugural Wildcatter Exchange, a weekend festival showcasing Fort Worth’s literary past and a rich history of artistic voices from all across Texas. South Main Village served as the perfect setting for the multi- venue event, as panels and performances drew audiences to Amphibian Stage Productions, Shipping & Receiving, Landers Machine Shop, and Ilfusion. Each year since the event has expanded to include other venues and has brought significant talent drawing even largers crowds.
Live on the Green
Broadway Baptist Church, located in South Main Village, presents their Live on the Green concert series every July at Magnolia Green. The family-friendly, weekday evening concerts feature great local music talent and delicious offerings from popular local food trucks.
The Cowtown Marathon
The Cowtown Marathon – headquartered in Park Place Village – runs through the Near Southside and Historic Fairmount every February. Cowtown has grown into a full weekend event, with a handful of different race distances attracting around 30,000 participants from all over the country.
Requiring the speed of a sprinter but the guts of a marathoner, the Magnolia Mile one-mile race offers a race distance that children and adults alike find achievable but competitive - an experience providing bragging material for years of boisterous tale-telling. Better yet, the Magnolia Mile is for EVERYONE! Bring your pet for the dog mile, get in some steps at the walkers mile, or relive your high school hero days with the age group mile! No matter how you participate, there will be great snacks, drinks, and fun at the after race party.
There is no better location in Fort Worth that provides the perfect elements for a mile race than West Magnolia Avenue. Known for its promotion of the arts, music, food and a more walkable lifestyle, the neighborhood and tree-lined street is also ideal for a very FAST mile race. Combining the spirit of the mile with the spirit of Magnolia, the Magnolia Mile event will host its inaugural race in April 2017 and will surely become a staple annual event in the Near Southside.
