Open Streets is a four-hour Sunday event which closes Magnolia Avenue and other adjacent streets to traffic and opens them up to cyclists, food trucks, dog-walkers, skateboarders, yoga classes, face-painters and much more. The event is an expression of the Near Southside's community spirit in every way: local businesses set up activities along the route; neighborhood residents help spread the word about street closures and detours; and dozens of community partners take ownership of key planning details such as routes and activities, temporary public art projects, pet adoptions, bike safety courses, setting up and breaking down barricades on event day, and much more.
CELEBRATING ITS 12THSEASON, FRIDAY ON THE GREEN is the once-monthly concert series presented April, May, June, September and October by Near Southside, Inc. and Historic Southside, Inc. The event is held at Magnolia Green, located on Lipscomb between Magnolia and Rosedale, and regularly attracts thousands of neighborhood families and visitors. Friday on the Green features the region’s best live music, tasty food and drinks from Near Southside eateries, and the fun and relaxed atmosphere of a big neighborhood picnic. Groups of families and friends show up with blankets, chairs and pets to enjoy a lineup of four great local bands, children’s activities and an artisan market.
ArtsGoggle is Fort Worth's premier festival of local arts. This free to the public, family-friendly event annually hosts more than 1,000 visual artists, 50 musical performances, artistic displays of every kind, food, drink, and fun for everyone. Unlike any event in Fort Worth, it exclusively focuses on highlighting the work of local artists, musicians, and performers of all mediums and experience levels. ArtsGoggle attracts a crowd of 60,000+ patrons that are as diverse as the Near Southside neighborhood where the event is hosted. Visitors are invited to park their cars and rediscover this revitalized urban neighborhood by foot or by bicycle, including Fort Worth Bike Sharing bikes.
